Oh Say, Can You Sing? National Anthem Contest

As of September 16th, the San Francisco Giants Contest is now officially over.
First-place winner MUSAIC will sing the national anthem at the Giants game on Thursday Sept. 29th. Second-place winner Susan Zelinksy will receive five hours of engineered recording time at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley.

Thanks to all who supported Bread & Roses Presents by voting and participating in the contest. We appreciate your help in bringing live music to those who need it most!


Congratulations to the Oakland A's Oh Say, Can You Sing? Contest winners Cathryn Flores, who won first place and sang the National Anthem at the A’s game on Aug 14th, and to Felicia Foster for winning second place and five hours of engineered recording time at Fantasy Recording Studios.

Maria Muldaur & Her Red Hot Bluesiana Band

Veteran blues, pop and gospel singer Maria Muldaur has been a Bread & Roses volunteer since the 1970's.  She is a trouper who has performed for institutional audiences in detention as well as rehabilitation. She has also graciously performed at other Bread & Roses benefit concerts throughout the years.

 

 

Sofi Rox and Dick Bright

sofiFor the past two years, Sofi Rox has performed her charming original songs on guitar and ukelele for isolated children in low-income day care centers and special needs schools, as well as adults in mental health facilities. Accompanied by musical impresario Dick Bright on violin,  this dynamic duo delights audiences young and old.

 

 

 

 

 

Aidan Nelson

aidan_dec_concertAidan Nelson is a volunteer who is showing the way for other teens to get involved with Bread & Roses.  A former intern in our office, he has volunteered as a musician and show host. His band the "Jazz Cats" from Marin Academy performed at the Bread & Roses annual benefit last year. A talented solo performer as well, he is headed off to Boston's Berklee College of Music this fall.

Bread & Roses presents, in partnership with the Lark Theater, "Pocket Full of Soul" a one-time, exclusive film screening & benefit concert at the Lark Theater. The definitive film on the harmonica, it features renowned harmonica players and is narrated by Huey Lewis, a long-time Bread & Roses supporter. This unique documentary will be followed by live music with Mark Hummel & Friends. Mark, a featured musician in the film, is a veteran Bread & Roses performer.

Proceeds benefit Bread & Roses program of hope and healing through live music in over 600 annual performances for those isolated in San Francisco Bay Area institutions.

Blues harmonica ace, guitarist and songwriter Mark Hummel is a long-time supporter of Bread & Roses and has done many institutional shows and benefit concerts for Bread & Roses.

This is a first-time collaboration and partnership with the Lark Theater. The venue has been lovingly restored and is a gem, with a well stocked concession stand: wine, beer, root beer floats, organic hotdogs, pizza, snacks and more are available for purchase.
