Bread & Roses inspires, educates, entertains and transforms hardship into hope by sharing the healing gift of live music with children undergoing chemotherapy, teens battling addiction, families living in homeless shelters, elders residing in Alzheimer’s facilities and others living apart from friends and family while facing challenging times.

Once a year, we hold a special benefit concert to ensure our important work continues. From the world famous Bread & Roses benefits at the Greek Theatre with artists including Jackson Browne, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell to intimate recent events with Bonnie Raitt, Boz Scaggs, Loudon Wainwright III, and Huey Lewis—Bread & Roses has consistently delivered on its promise to deliver an exceptional musical program, one that money alone cannot buy.

Our recipe for success is simple: an urgent cause, an extraordinary concert performed by celebrated artists, an intimate and elegant venue, sumptuous food and wine, and generous recognition of sponsors and guests.

We need your support and look forward to dazzling you with a night to remember.

Mill Valley Film Festival: "Leave Them Laughing"

In association with The Mill Valley Film Festival, Bread & Roses will co-present the film “Leave Them Laughing” on Sun. Oct. 10 at 7 pm at the Sequoia in Mill Valley and on Tues. Oct. 12 at 8:30 pm at The Rafael in San Rafael. Tickets are $10/members; $12.50 non-members and are available at the MVFF box office next to the Rafael Theatre or online: Bread & Roses Executive Director Cassandra Flipper will participate in the Q & A following the premiere screening on Oct. 10.  The film is also co-presented by The ALS Association Golden West Chapter with support from the Consulate General of Canada, San Francisco/Silicon Valley.

The documentary film charts the last two years of the life of singer, comedienne & drama director Carla Zilbersmith who continued to perform after she was diagnosed with ALS also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Carla was a Berkeley resident and a drama director at the College of Marin. Bread & Roses was founded by singer-songwriter Mimi Fariña in Mill Valley in 1974. Mimi, like Carla, fought a terminal illness and continued to perform, as she was able, during her valiant fight in the latter part of her life. Please join us for the film on Sunday evening October 10 and for the benefit concert immediately following at The Woods Music Hall in Mill Valley “Into the Woods for Bread & Roses: Celebrating Strong Women of Song.”
